Let’s Sail: A Juneteenth Celebration for Black Vermonters
All Heart Inspirations and Whistling Man Schooner began collaborating in 2021 to gift Black Vermont residents a sailing adventure in honor of Juneteenth. The sails are infused with storytelling and celebration. This is a free event for our local Black community made possible through sponsorships and crowdfund donations. Juneteenth is a holiday celebrated on June 19th to commemorate the emancipation of enslaved people in the United States. Known as Emancipation Day, Freedom Day, and Jubilee Day, it has been celebrated by Black Americans since 1865. Since 2021, Black Vermonters have been sailing aboard Friend Ship and Wild Rose in celebration of Juneteenth thanks to the organizing and fundraising efforts of Ferene and All Heart Inspirations. “Every contribution matters to put wind in the sails of this event. Have questions? Ideas for other ways to contribute? Reach out, and thank you so much for helping create space for Black joy out on the waters of Lake Champlain.” –Captain Cory Dalsimer
“I find such healing and liberation through sailing. My first sail on WMSC left me in awe as I was reintroduced to Lake Champlain. Beyond grateful to host our Black community on these whimsical vessels and uplift our collective stories.” -Ferene Paris | All Heart Founder + Storyteller
